International Committee of the Red Cross
Established in 1863, the ICRC operates worldwide, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence and promoting the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and employ over 20,000 people in more than 100 countries. The ICRC is funded mainly by voluntary donations from governments and from National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
At our stand
See how virtual reality (VR) can be an innovative tool to enhance the audience's understanding of humanitarian issues, conflict and their impact on populations, and to accelerate learning.
The two main products featured are the "Climate change VR project" and "The escape". Both are fully immersive and enable role play and free choice through headsets and "wands".
The participants also have the possibility to engage with a broader selection of VR applications and trainings designed for humanitarian professionals, depending on their interests. These cover a range of humanitarian topics such as the challenges of reducing civilian harm in urban warfare; conducting forensic operations in the aftermath of conflict; how to act as a civilian during conflict; or raising awareness of the dangers of landmines.
