The key objective is to critically reflect in an interactive workshop on the opportunities, challenges and concrete entry points for expanding anticipatory action to other contexts and hazards. More specifically, the session seeks to interrogate the principles, conditions and resources needed for anticipatory action to (1) deliver support in situations of protracted crises or conflict; (2) tackle disease outbreaks and epidemics; (3) curb food insecurity and malnutrition, especially in light of alarming trends.

The session targets newcomers to the anticipatory action community and ‘established’ anticipatory action practitioners and policymakers alike. It aims to stimulate interest and engagement in the various approaches to these diverse topics and to encourage participants to reflect on the issues within their own organizations. The session will be based on the outcomes of technical working groups hosted by the Anticipation Hub and build upon the outcomes of the ‘Global Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Humanitarian Action’ and related key events on anticipatory action such as the ‘Anticipating Food Crises Workshop’, organized by the Global Network Against Food Crises.
The secondary goal of this session is to facilitate new connections, partnerships and ways of thinking amongst those interested in taking greater steps to act ahead of crises (e.g. donors, international stakeholders, the EU and its Member States, humanitarian organizations, scientists).
