Cornelis Johannes Matthijssen

Biography
In his 42 years of military service C.J. (Kees) Matthijssen was deployed in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and most recently in Mali. He commanded troops at various levels in those missions, ultimately as lieutenant general he commanded the military Force MINUSMA in Mali. He has a wealth of experience in cooperation with other actors and is known for his excellent leadership.

Biography
Mr Chapagain is responsible for leading the IFRC Secretariat while coordinating and supporting its 192-member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the globe. He began his career as a Nepal Red Cross youth volunteer and has served the IFRC in different capacities for over 30 years, leading humanitarian and development efforts around the world.
