Biography
Tunde, IRC’s Country Director for Nigeria has over 25 years of experience, both in the nonprofit and private sectors in diverse fields ranging from environment, development, civilian protection, and humanitarian. He has worked at leadership and management levels for numerous INGOs, including as the Country Director for Oxfam Great Britain, as the Deputy Country Director and Director of Operations for Save the Children and as Country Director, Center for Civilians in Conflict all in Nigeria. He has a B.Sc in Agriculture and an MBA in global business. Tunde is alumni of the prestigious GELI/Harvard and GELI/London School of Economics courses.

Saving lives with limited resources: The need to prioritise

This session aims to secure greater commitment to transparent and accountable prioritization of humanitarian action by directing resources towards the most acute needs. The session will discuss how donors and humanitarian organizations can best prioritize their work in the face of today’s overwhelming needs and limited resources. At the same time, it will evaluate why some of the world’s most severe crises remain stubbornly underfunded and what tools are needed for more informed and transparent prioritization within and between crises. The session will furthermore debate the terms “vulnerability” and “humanitarian”, asking what the advantages and disadvantages of using these terms are. Finally, the session will evaluate what happens with the much-needed work on prevention and anticipation of crises, and the resilience of affected communities, if we agree to target scarce humanitarian funds more narrowly towards life-saving activities.

Biography
Barry Andrews, MEP, European Parliament.
Barry Andrews is a member of the DEVE, INTA and FEMM committees in the European Parliament, and chairs the informal grouping of MEPs known as the "SDG Alliance". Highlights of his term include his rapporteurship of the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive, on behalf of the INTA committee. Prior to becoming an MEP, Barry served as CEO of the humanitarian and development INGO, GOAL. He also served as Director-General of the Institute of International and European Affairs.

Biography
Belén Martínez Carbonell, Managing Director in the European Union’s External Action Service (EEAS),
is responsible for Global Agenda and Multilateral Relations since 1 September 2021.
Previously she held the position of Director for Human Resources of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and she headed EEAS Policy Coordination in charge notably of preparing of Foreign Affairs Councils. Before this Belén Martínez Carbonell had worked in various functions related to external relations at the EEAS and the European Commission, including as Head of Division for Andean Countries, Member of the Cabinet of the Trade Commissioner, Member of Cabinet of the Commissioner for External
Relations, Political Counsellor at the EC Delegation to the United States.
